Everyday History

The people depicted in this warm family portrait are the uncle and aunt of my mother. An epitome of the urban educated middle class Bengali in post Second World War Calcutta, whose lives went on, albeit a bit shaken amidst the crisis of war and displacement. Is there anything remarkable about this picture? Well probably not much, except for the intense possessiveness displayed by the man for his woman, a person he would fiercely guard all his life, somewhat out of the patriarchal mindset, but mostly out of love!
